About
Boreas Offshore Wind

Map highlighting the Norfolk Boreas offshore wind farm location with 1.4 GW planned capacity off the UK's East Anglia coast.

Project overview

Boreas Offshore Wind Farm will be built off the coast of Norfolk in East Anglia, with the nearest turbine located around up to 80km from shore.

It will deliver electricity via cables which come ashore at Happisburgh and connect to the National Grid at Necton. Onshore construction of the underground cable route began in 2023 and is well underway. You can find out more about construction activity in the Information Packs located in the Resources section.

Once operational, Boreas will have a capacity of 1.4GW, making it one of the largest offshore wind farms in the country, providing enough power for over one million homes.

Boreas

A Development Consent Order (DCO) was awarded to Norfolk Boreas Offshore Wind Farm by the Secretary of State for the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) on 10 December 2021.

Boreas Offshore Wind Farm is a 1.4GW project that is fully owned, and being developed by, RWE (100%).
